When I was around 14 years old I went to my first secular concert at the Riverside Theatre. (Don't laugh, yall know I come from church) The performers were... wait for it... George Clinton and Parliament. 🤯 ikr
My mind was blown. The Funk had everything and Everybody in a trance. Bootsie Collins walked ON THE CROWD while playing bass. The Mothership landed. As if all of that wasn't enough, there were atleast 300 people on stage 😂
Okay, I'm exaggerating but frfr there were so many musicians, singers and dancers I couldn't believe it. The entire show captivated me.
Needless to say, that experience left a huge impression on me as a musician. Back then I was in band at school and learning to be a music director under my dad's tutelage at church. This was the 90s when church choirs literally had hundreds of singers!
When I dreamed of having my own band, it included a whole host of musicians. I can't believe it, but on November 26th there will be over 10 musicians in Shuga Blu.
I am trippin' 🙌🏽 Dreams do come true.
